The Twelve Days of Christmas

The Twelve Days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

A Partridge in a Pear Tree.

If the probability of getting a partridge is .58 and the probability of getting a pear tree is .76, and these are independent events, find the probability of getting a partridge and a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

          Two Turtle Doves.

If the probability of a female turtle dove is .53, find the probability of at least one female turtle dove in the pair.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

          Three French Hens.

If the probability of a hen truly having French citizenship is .81, find the probability of exactly two French hens out of the three.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Four Calling Birds.

If the probability of a bird actually calling is .63, find the probability of finding the first calling bird on the third attempt.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Five Golden Rings.

If the probability of getting a real golden ring is .72, find the probability of getting three or fewer golden rings in the five.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Six Geese A-laying.

If the probability of getting an authentic laying goose is .83, find the probability of getting a laying goose on or before the fourth trial.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Seven Swans A-swimming.

If the probability that a swan drowns is .23, find the probability exactly 4 out of the 7 swans drown.

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Eight Maids A-milking.

If the probability of getting a sour maid A-milking is .38, find the expected number of sour maids A-milking out of the 8.

On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Nine Ladies Dancing.

If the probability of a dancing lady accepting an invitation to dance is .18, what is the expected number of ladies you would have to ask, before the first one accepts.

On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Ten Lords A-leaping.

If the probability of a lame leaping lord is .24, find the probability of getting your first lame leaping lord after the sixth attempt.

On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Eleven Pipers Piping.

If the probability of frozen pipes is .63, find the probability of 8 or more frozen pipes out of the 11.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me:

Twelve Drummers Drumming.

If the probability of a dribbling drummer is .48, find the standard deviation of the dribbling drummers drumming.

Love is a powerful force

“Love is a powerful force for good that is a central component of virtually every [YOUR TOWN] resident’s secular and spiritual life,” said [Individual positively impacted by Honoree’s work]. “Today we applaud those who have channeled and harnessed love in defense of fairness and equality for all those who call [YOUR TOWN] home.”

National Standing on the Side of Love Day re-imagines Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to celebrate those who live out the values of love for all people in society.  Hundreds of communities and individuals across the country are celebrating with “Love Award” presentations, the sharing of inspirational stories of courageous love on the Standing on the Side of Love website (http://www.standingonthesideoflove.org/blog), and the distribution of “Love Notes” to individuals who have been a source of personal inspiration.

The event was organized by local faith leaders and inspired by Standing on the Side of Love, a nationwide campaign sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association that actively seeks justice for marginalized communities and promotes respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

a nice joke

An Italian, French and Indian went for a job interview in England.

Before the interview, they were told that they must compose a sentence in english with three main words: green, pink and yellow..

The Italian was first: "I wake up in the morning. I see the yellow sun. I see the green grass and I think to myself, I hope it will be a pink day.."

The French was next: " I wake up in the morning, I eat a yellow banana,a green pepper and in the evening I watch the pink panter on TV..

Last was the Indian, : "I wake up in the morning, I hear the phone "green green", I "pink" up the phone and I say "Yellow"

Seven deadly sins

Are you a miserable sinner? If you're not, you must be
pretty exceptional -- a saint maybe, or perhaps an angel in
disguise. The rest of us go about our daily lives committing
sins left, right and centre. But be careful, because seven
of them are deadly, and lead to eternal damnation in Hell.
Here they are, the famous Seven Deadly Sins:

Pride

A too great belief in one's own abilities, that interferes
with one's recognition of the grace of God. It is sometimes
called the sin that causes all other sins. Pride is also
known as Vanity.

Envy

Discontent and a desire for another person's possessions,
qualities or luck.

Gluttony

An excessive and habitual desire to eat more than one needs.

Lust

An excessive sexual desire.

Anger

A strong feeling of displeasure or hostility, a kind of
fury. Anger is also known as Wrath.

Covetousness

A strong desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring
spiritual things. Covetousness is also known as Greed.

Sloth

A reluctance to do physical or spiritual work, a very great
laziness.

Drugs

Drugs. What do we know about drugs? What do we imagine when we say this word? White powder or a young person, wiping out any possibility for his future to grow, killing himself slowly. Drugs came in our life and destroyed any relations between parents and children. I say "any" because this is the word, defining exactly what happens when a child starts taking drugs. Ignorance. Ignorance from the rest of the world, living in a world with no real friends, no sun, no flowers, no stars, no tears or laughter^ no love. The only friend of the drug addict is the syringe. And nevertheless, there are people who manage to emerge from all this, to overcome their dependence from drugs and let their life change, continue, develop or whatever word you're comfortable with. Why? Why there are so many drug addicts? Why does a child become a drug fiend? There are people, who are more probable to start taking drugs, than others. People, who are more responsible, stronger and are always "in charge" of their own problems, these people "never" take drugs, as they say themselves. These people are able to obey someone, to entice someone, to listen or act for someone, but to get what they want, to get the joy they want. But there are weak people, who have "closed" and ignored themselves from the rest of the reality, people who live in their own world. They are usually not willing to solve their problems by their own, so they find a "friend" who "helps" them. And all this, because you don't need neither to obey, nor to allure the squirt. No, you just take it, and you get they joy you have been longing for so fervently, ignoring everything else around you. You get a false joy, and become unable to feel anything, as you try to get another dose before you have to spend too much of your precious time in reality
